You should have a BC driver’s license with an air brake endorsement to operate vehicles equipped with air brakes on a highway. Typical vehicles with air brakes include dump trucks, large transport trucks (the cabs and/or trailers), and many types of buses. Some motor homes also have air brakes.
There are two types of air brake endorsements:
On-highway- You need this endorsement if you have a BC driver’s license and want to drive air-brake equipped vehicles on a highway. A highway includes all roadways that the general public can use.
Off-highway (Industrial) - You need this endorsement to operate air-brake equipped vehicles on industrial roads. An industrial road is most often a road used for transporting natural resources. Example: a logging road.
Air Brake Practical Training (Air Endorsement)
In this hands-on practical session, students learn the proper brake adjustments and air brake inspection procedures. You must take the mandatory air brake course prior to taking the practical training for your air endorsement.
This Air Brake Practical Training is conducted on our air brake equipped vehicle, so you do not need to bring your R.V. or truck for the ICBC road test.
