FAQs - Class 3 Commercial Driver Training

A Class 3 licence allows you to operate large trucks with three or more axles, such as dump trucks, tow trucks, and some construction vehicles. It is commonly required for careers in construction, waste management, and local transport.

With a Class 3 licence, you can drive:

  • Dump trucks
  • Tow trucks
  • Large delivery trucks
  • Straight trucks with 3+ axles

You may also tow a trailer (with restrictions depending on weight).

To apply, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Hold a valid Class 5 licence
  • Pass a knowledge test
  • Pass a medical exam
  • Complete a road test

Training from a professional driving school is strongly recommended.

Absolutely. Many drivers start with Class 3 and later upgrade to Class 1 by completing MELT training and passing additional tests.
