– Check all Steering Components – minimal play
– Frame / Suspension & Steering Axle

6. Brake & Wheel axle

(steering axle -1st axle)

– Air Line / Brake Chamber / Brake Push Rod Travel (1/2 to 3/4 inch)
– Wheel Seals / Rim / Sidewalls / Tread / Inflation / Lug Nuts

7. Engine

– Coolant Level / Hoses & Clamps / Exhaust / Belt(s)
– The Block – no fluid leaks on or under the vehicle
– Engine Oil (if this side)

8. Steering / Frame
& Suspension

– Check Tie Rod for play
– Frame / Suspension & Steering Axle

9. Brake & Wheel axle

(tractor front – 1st axle)

– Air Line / Brake Chamber / Brake Push Rod Travel (1/2 to 3/4 inch)
– Wheel Seals / Rim / Sidewalls / Tread / Inflation / Lug Nuts

10. Hood

(Close & Secure)

– Close Wet Tank (if applicable)

11. Ignition On

– Check Warning Lights
– No A.D.I.S. – confirm the one way check vales are working
(the air pressure is still up)
– Start Engine – in Neutral with Clutch 1/2 way down
– Oil pressure / Charging System / Fuel

12. Interior Items scan

S pattern scan or ( We Should Do Homework )

– (W) – Windshield/ Wipers & Washer/ Windows/ Mirrors
– (S) – Seat / Seat Belts / Steering Wheel
– (D) – Dash Lights / Defroster / Documents-
(R.I.P.) Registration / Insurance / Pre-Trip
– (H) – Horns / Hazard Lights / High Beam Indicator

13. In cab Air System

– Governor check:
Governor unloads the Compressor
(needles stop climbing, steady pressure) (105-135 psi)
– Release Spring Brakes – (push Tractor Button IN)
– Fan Brakes down ~20 psi (no lower than 80 psi)
– Governor check:
Governor reloads the Compressor (air pressure starts climbing)
– Low air warning: fan brakes until warning Devices come on
(Confirm on at 60 psi or above)
– Fan Brakes until both needles are below 50 psi
– Set RPM between 1,000 to 1,200
– Time – building 50 to 90 psi (Confirm it took less than 3 min.)
– Release Spring Brakes – (push Tractor Button IN)
– Build air until the Governor Unloads the Compressor at 105-135 psi

14. Leak Test

– Shut off the Truck
– If electric gauges – Ignition may need to be in the ON position
– Make a full brake application for 1 minute (time after the gauges settle)
– Confirm Air Loss is no more than 3 psi in 1 minute

15. Left Signal

– Turn on the Left Signal (ignition ON if required)
– Turn on th High Beam Lights

16. Front

– Check the Headlights-High Beams / Low Beams
– Clearance & Marker Lights / Licence Plate – valid
– No leaks under vehicle / Signal Lights – front and side

17. Side 1- Body

– Mirror / Lights / Batteries & Cables
– Steps / Handrail / Door / All Compartment Doors
– Fuel Tank, Cap & Straps / Exhaust Pipe and Muffler

18. Drive Train
& Suspension

– Air Lines to and from the air tanks / Front Drive Shaft / Differential
– Air Bags

19. Brakes

(tractor axle – # 2)

20. Drive Train
& suspension

– Short Drive Shaft / Rear Differential
– Air Bags

21. Brakes

(tractor axle – # 3)

– Airlines / Brake Chambers / Brake Push Rod Travel (1/2 to 3/4 inch)

22. Frame
& Suspension

– Supply & Control Air Lines / Electrical Cord
– Fifth Wheel / Frame
– Air Bags / Suspension

23. Wheels Duals

(tractor axle #2 & #3)

– Wheel Seals / Rims / Sidewalls / Tread / Inflation / Lug Nuts
– Nothing between Duals / Mud Flap

24. Rear of Tractor

– Left Signal / Tail Light / Licence Plate & Light
– Ask examiner to confirm that the brake lights are working

25. Cab

1) Left signal OFF
2) Make a light Brake Application
3) Right signal ON
4) Apply Spring Brakes – (Pull Tractor Button OUT)

– Right Signal / Tail Light

– Vehicle Inspection Decal – Valid
– Mirrors / Signal & Marker Lights

30. Blocks

– Make sure the Spring Brakes are applied
– Remove the Blocks

31. Start Engine

– In Neutral with Clutch 1/2 way down

32. Spring Brake
Tug Tests

– Tractor Spring Brakes
(Tractor Button OUT) try to move forward

33. Response Test

– Tractor Park Brakes Released
(Tractor button IN)
– Move Forward Apply Foot Valve

34. Inspection Report

– Apply the Spring Brakes
– Fill Out the Trip Inspection Report
